chasing the rabbit with marion lane

Marion Lane describes her artwork as similar to “chasing the rabbit”: that is, the desire to find the best image possible–whether it be on the television or for our own walls. Her artwork is inspired by abstracted frame-grabs of TV images; the result is something that is distinctly organic yet seems to pulse with raw energy at the same time.

There is an alien-like nature to Marion’s work; they remind me of fungal spores that are spreading, albeit beautiful ones. However I do believe it when she says these are inspired by TV images. The striped colors have a familiarity to them, kind of like if you took a scene from LOST or the Brady Bunch and ran them at high speed in a blender.

I think that Marion’s works are therefore a remix of life itself, or at least our idealized conceptions of life. This is what makes them so attractive; beyond the bubbly shapes that are just downright cute, each “pod” is like a happy idea encapsulated and then given life–and even more, allowed to grow and flourish. I can definitely see Marion’s art thriving and giving life to my own home; if you feel the same way, I encourage you to stop by her website here.

Very cool stuff. It has the clean line and vivid quality of fused stained glass. Thanks for posting it. Dan
