claudine hellmuth

Uniquely personalized with a healthy dose of creativity and humor, I think Claudine Hellmuth’s artwork makes for great gift giving. For starters, she’s a wonderful illustrator–not the rigid, paint by numbers kinda gal, is filled with bright, slightly off-kilter 50s nostalgia: we’re talking argyle golf shorts and green polkadot dresses!

madame fortuna jewelry

One thing I like about repurposed work is the sheer quantity of materials from which to draw upon; Madame Fortuna is clearly one who has a knack for drawing upon such sources! Although I first classified her work as Victorian vintage, I quickly began to see influences from various other time periods; the piece above is a mix of ornate, southwestern, industrial and even mardi gras mixed in!

thymbl designs

If handmade were to be embodied in a person, I would very much picture someone like Mademoiselle A. Living in Germany in a little old house, amidst hills shrouded in mist and meandering alleys, her creations draw upon the finer, handcrafted traditions of the past. Above: sweet little bird and mushroom brooches, perched on vintage wooden buttons alongside flocked leaves and red berries; precious drawstring key pouches crafted from antique linen and accented with polyclay mushrooms.

essimar

I have a feeling if Esther ever opened her own brick and mortar shop, it’d be the kind you could spend hours in without realizing it. What Esther does is create art; yet her mediums and implementations fluctuate in delightfully unexpected ways. From sketch prints to hand-pulled screenprints, she explores and invites you to do the same when you visit her store, Essimar.
